The story of Vuorenmaa Yhtiöt Oy began in Lapua in 1946 when Paavo Vuorenmaa started a scrapyard business in post-war Finland. Finland was primarily an agrarian society at the time, and the mid-20th century saw shortages due to population growth, urbanization, and the aging and obsolescence of transport and agricultural machinery after World War II. This led to a backlog in maintenance, with a dire need for spare parts. Initially, Vuorenmaa's dismantling yard disassembled tanks and other vehicles to supply spare parts, primarily for agricultural needs, forming the basis of the business.
Over time, our product range expanded, with bearings added in the 1950s and belts, pulleys, and seals in the 1960s.
In 1977, the leadership of the company shifted to Paavo's son, Timo Vuorenmaa. In the early 1980s, during a period of strong economic growth in Finland, Timo identified opportunities beyond Lapua and expanded the business.
In the early 1980s, the company initiated its own imports and relocated to new premises in Lapua. Timo recognized that the key to success in the technical wholesale business was having an extensive stock, quick deliveries, and expert service. The importance of used goods in the business diminished, and under Timo's leadership, the company evolved into a full-service provider serving the industrial sector.
In 2006, the responsibility for the family business transitioned to the third generation when siblings Emilia and Ville Vuorenmaa took over after the passing of their father. Under the third generation's leadership, Vuorenmaa Yhtiöt Oy have continued to grow, not only in terms of business expansion but also through a focus on modernizing processes and decision-making. The company works on harmonizing different operating methods as it expands through acquisitions.
